There’s a trail by my house that I love to hike. It’s short. It’s sweet. And it makes my thighs and butt burn. (Is there a better feeling?)
Today, as I was making my way up, the cutest elderly man passed me and said, “Well hello there, lil darlin.” And it wasn’t creepy or weird. It was genuine and sweet. Like he actually knew I was a lil darlin’. And it made my heart so happy.
It also got me thinking about how the simplest of gestures can brighten someone’s day.
We never know how the words we speak impact other people. Something as simple as “You have the prettiest smile,” or “I love that shirt on you,” or “Hello there, lil darlin” has the power to shift someone’s perspective completely, and for the better.
Imagine if we were all acknowledged every day. Like . . . truly seen. Even if by a random passerby. What a different world it would be.
This cute man inspired me to be better about finding simple ways to spread sunshine; to make sure people feel like they matter, even if I don’t know them at all.
Tell me your simple gesture stories!!
